Kisii county governor, James Ongwae, amazed the public while addressing citizens during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Gusii Stadium. In his speech, Ongwae did not mention Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Dedan Kimathi and other Mau Mau fighters but resolved to acknowledge Raila Odinga and James Orengo, alongside other outspoken Gusii heroes, saying that their fight for multiparty democracy is supreme. Ongwae also acknowledged the Kisii boda boda team for taking part in rescuing the trapped casualties in the recently collapsed Mwembe building. The governor took much of his time to show how his government is working to ensure construction safety, and the plans he has to expand Kisii town feeder roads. Ongwae called on Raila Odinga and president Uhuru Kenyatta to participate in dialogue and solve the current political crisis in the country.
Governor Ongwae is a staunch ODM member and a key figure in the national opposition from Kisii county.
