Kisii University Receives yet Another 'Big' Visitor

After the President's visit to the largest institution in Gusii, today the university hosted the opposition chief Raila Odinga. Raila used the opportunity to urge all governors to pay doctors who have been on a long strike.
In his earlier visit, the president had confirmed to the comrades that the institution will remain open to help in growing the Kisii economy.

The Abagusii Community

The Kisii (also known as AbaGusii) is a community of Bantu people who inhabit two counties: Kisii (formerly Kisii District ) and Nyamira in Nyanza Province , Western Kenya. Gusii is the fond reference to their homeland and Mogusii is culturally identified as their founder and patriarch. Kisii town - known as Bosongo by the locals - is located in Nyanza Province to the southwest of Kenya and is home to the Gusii people. The name Bosongo is believed to have originated from Abasongo (to mean the Whites) who lived in the town during the colonial times. According to the 1979 census, Kisii District had a population of 588,000. The AbaGusii increased to 2.2 million in the latest Kenya Census 2009. SAKAGWA ACADEMIC BLOCK This is one of the most busy building in the institution. It houses more than 50 offices and a number of ultramodern lecture halls. Its entrance always seems busy due to the high number of people who use the facilities it offers. It houses the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, School of Pure and Applied Sciences, etc. Sakagwa most definitely gives the institution its face of operation and social recognition.
