5 THINGS YOU WON'T FORGET IN THE FIRST 5 YEARS OF DEVOLUTION

1. THE 7 MILLION GATE The entrance to the Nyamira County Hospital was built at an amazing cost of Ksh. 7m, yet it looks like a normal gate costing less than half a million. The county government never came clear on this nor did the state investigative agencies employ their time on the matter. Only the media did... Welcome to Kenya of 'Haki Yetu'. 2. THE 8,000 KISII FLASKS The Kisii County government is amazing. No wonder how small every penny taxed is, the executive can't afford to use cheap utensils in their offices. Just to hold tea that they took in their homes, the county executive purchased these brands commonly called Thermos at Ksh. 8,000 whereas the cheapest goes at Ksh. 350. The supplier and the tendering committee are enjoying freedom of 'utilising' public funds. Unforgettable... 3. THE SUPER 110 KAKAMEGA WHEELBARROWS A wheelbarrow does not carry sand only, in Kakamega they carry even the flashes of news cameras. Here, one costs 15 times the norma

Is Nyachae a threat to Ongwae?

Son to former veteran politician Simon Nyachae, Charles Nyachae has been in the front line condemning the Kisii governor James Ongwae. The former CIC boss has been spearheading campaigns against Ongwae saying the he has looted public funds to his best and needs an early retirement. It's quite clear that Nyachae and Ongwae are not in good political terms. Sources have now revealed that Nyachae could be rallying behind senator Chris Obure who is aiming to unsit Ongwae on a Jubilee ticket. If Charles Nyachae will be on the ballot, this will be his first time unlike Ongwae who used to vie for the Kitutu Chache seat. Ongwae has been displaying confidence by challenging his opponents to dare him. As the election date is near the race could get tighter as the anti-Ongwae morans have gone as far as assembling their strongholds together. Nyachae wants to conjoin his Nyaribari Chache to Obure's Bobasi to harvest voters in plenty. Will this be the main threat? Or,  will the corruptio

Media yet to give us another politician

The local vernacular radio station, Egesa FM, is known for popularising names, some which turn to be successful politicians. A good example is the current Nyamira Woman Representative Alice Chae and nominated MCA Fred Menge. These earlier figures seem to have fostered their aspirations on their juniors as another name has emerged. Popular presenter Doris Aburi now wants to unsit Kisii County Women Representative Mary Otara. The daughter to Ichuni MCA Francis Aburi, has started her campaigns with hopes of success.

Kisii University Receives yet Another 'Big' Visitor

After the President's visit to the largest institution in Gusii, today the university hosted the opposition chief Raila Odinga. Raila used the opportunity to urge all governors to pay doctors who have been on a long strike. In his earlier visit, the president had confirmed to the comrades that the institution will remain open to help in growing the Kisii economy.

Gachuba MCA Scores in Road Construction

Gachuba MCA, Andrew Magangi, has been on the run upgrading a number of minor roads in the area. The Nyamira Assembly deputy speaker has been confirming to the locals that the projects are his own blueprint and no other politician should show off with them. Among the roads upgraded are Riamoenga-Bochoroke-Mashauri-Gachuba, Girango-Kiomonso-Eberege-Kiendege among others. Some of the roads have been spread with a layer of murram making the passable during rainy seasons.

OKIOMA VOWS TO UNSIT NYAGARAMA

Former Kitutu Masaba MP, Samson Mwancha Okioma has shown his massive intentions in the Nyamira gubernatorial race. In his recent public appearances, Okioma has been rallying his bid and promising to unsit John Nyagarama. Okioma served as the Kitutu Masaba Mp in 2002-2007 under the Ford-People ticket  He later lost to Walter Nyambati in 2007. Sources reveal that Nyambati will also be in the gubernatorial race, although they have not been formally substantiated. Current governor, John Nyagarama, will also be in the race, defending his seat on an ODM ticket.

So Our Senator smoked the weed...

He's become the darling of headlines. Right from launching his bid despite being infamous, Nyamira senator Mong'are Bwo'Kong'o amazed many when he said that he once smoked bhang. The statement caused a stir in the upper house for a while, with other senators supporting Mong'are's bid saying bhang had nothing to do with his preaidential dreams. According to him, during his times, approximately 7 out of 10 boys smoked bhang! The senator launched his presidential bid although he has not stated his party.

My Nyamira

I come from a small hamlet in Nyamira County. My home is at the frontier area separating Nyamira and Kisii Counties, which make up the Abagusii genus. You can't imagine how I usually think that #IAmProudToBeAKisii . Actually, Nyamira county is the wellspring of a large flow of liquid called River Kuja/Gucha which locals refer to as Egucha. I personally have never been to this beautiful scene called Kiabonyoru where hearsays indicate that the river originates here. To me this is a claim of questionable accuracy that I am yet to ascertain. I have been to places like Gachuba, Kegati, Nyambunde, Ogembo... and the mighty Egucha passes here. I came to discover that some myths were developed years back to try in expounding some unusual behaviours associated with this river. This traditional narratives try to embody and cover reasons behind something common with the mighty river. A good byspel is existence of nefarious powers in the waters of this river. At some point near Gachuba, is a
