The local vernacular radio station, Egesa FM, is known for popularising names, some which turn to be successful politicians. A good example is the current Nyamira Woman Representative Alice Chae and nominated MCA Fred Menge. These earlier figures seem to have fostered their aspirations on their juniors as another name has emerged. Popular presenter Doris Aburi now wants to unsit Kisii County Women Representative Mary Otara. The daughter to Ichuni MCA Francis Aburi, has started her campaigns with hopes of success.

The Abagusii Community

The Kisii (also known as AbaGusii) is a community of Bantu people who inhabit two counties: Kisii (formerly Kisii District ) and Nyamira in Nyanza Province , Western Kenya. Gusii is the fond reference to their homeland and Mogusii is culturally identified as their founder and patriarch. Kisii town - known as Bosongo by the locals - is located in Nyanza Province to the southwest of Kenya and is home to the Gusii people. The name Bosongo is believed to have originated from Abasongo (to mean the Whites) who lived in the town during the colonial times. According to the 1979 census, Kisii District had a population of 588,000. The AbaGusii increased to 2.2 million in the latest Kenya Census 2009. SAKAGWA ACADEMIC BLOCK This is one of the most busy building in the institution. It houses more than 50 offices and a number of ultramodern lecture halls. Its entrance always seems busy due to the high number of people who use the facilities it offers. It houses the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, School of Pure and Applied Sciences, etc. Sakagwa most definitely gives the institution its face of operation and social recognition.
